Your mount
will only be
as
good as the specimen you bring me.
Here
are
some tips that will help you
take
care of your animal before you bring it to me
so
as to help
ensure the best possible mounting.
How
to Care for your Deer
Take
your
time
skinning the deer and leave enough hide on it. When
you make
your cut on the
stomach – stop when you get to the rib cage.
DO
NOT CUT ANY FURTHER!
Pull
the hide the rest of
the way down. Ring
the front legs at the joint and pull the
legs through. Make
sure that you bring
all of the hide because
I need from behind the
front shoulders to have enough hide to
do the mount. I can
cut off what I need to do
the
mount.
IT IS BETTER TO HAVE MORE
HIDE
THAN NOT ENOUGH!
DO NOT
CUT THE HIDE UP THE BACK!
After the deer is
skinned, put the
hide and head in a garbage bag and put
in the freezer. If a
freezer is not available, put the hide and head
in a large garbage bag
and put it in an ice chest and pack ice
around the outside of the bag -
not inside of the garbage bag.
Please
keep the hide clean and DRY
as
possible and
put it in
the freezer as soon as possible.
It is best if you can get
your hide in a
freezer within 3 days from harvesting it.
This will
keep bacteria from spoiling the hide.
